Site Initialization Error when Map Service Down
Also these errors do not corelate with the problem. As soon as we find the "bad map service" and remove it the site goes bakc to normal. This has happened from time to time when ESRI basemaps go down a well.
We also see extensive CPU and Memory usage when this happens too. Geocortex Essentials Site that has the bad 3rd Party Map Service takes minutes to open to remove the servie.

We are experiencing this error as well. Out of nowhere all of our public sites are down. 0 -
We were able to fix it as well by deleting a 3rd party service, that must have had a hiccup in the previous hours, but was working again at the time of failure. This needs to be fixed as we don't have control over 3rd party services down time. 0 -
This has been an issue for more then a year now from what I remember. I am going to submit this thread as a ticket. Not sure if Geocortex is even aware of this "kill" bug. Can you submit one too? 0 -
There is a setting that determines what Essentials does with an invalid map service. Can you please verify what yours is set to? It's on the Map page > Map Services tab > edit > Functional tab and the setting is called "Failure action". The default setting is warn and if it is set to warn I wouldn't expect the behaviour you are seeing (unless the site was copied or cloned and never previously loaded). 0 -
Wayne that's the first place I always check and it has "warn" on all our services. These viewers were built from scratch at HTML 2.8 as well. 0 -
Support has duplicated this and added it as a bug. I am always happy to help the community especially with a critical issue! Will post the bug number once they supply it. 0 -
"Hi Dylan, The bug filed is this one: GVH-16850 I will update you on any progress to it. Thanks, Marion." 0 -
"The generate token request returned an invalid response that contains HTML content." 0 -
When we see token errors in the viewer log, restarting IIS usually resolves it. Or you could try just recycling the Geocortex App pools. 0 -
Please add me as well. we often get this error and it came out from no where... 0 -
Wayne this seems to be even a worse error now on the latest GE 4.11 & HTML5 2.12.1 0 -
Hi, we have just experienced similar issues in Geocortex Essentials 4.10.1 and HTML5 viewer 2.11. Although the site opened we saw erratic behaviour including displacement of map widgets, shifting of toolbar off screen, failure of services to load in query tool drop down list etc. 0 -
Was this resolved? I don't see a final solution posted anywhere.
We've just received it for the first time after 8 or 9 years using Geocortex.

Hi All,
I know this is an old post, but we are still encountering this too (Essentials 4.12).
It is really frustrating that Essentials doesn't seem to recover from service outages very well.I am either apppool recycling or iisreseting, but it generally isn't until our end users have told us there is a problem.
Has GVH-16850 been actioned in a more recent version of Essentials?
Thanks,
Tim

We've been experiencing this issue for years too. This past week, our sites have been going down every few hours. I'm also recycling the app pools, but this is an unsustainable situation so I'm trying to find a better solution. We're using Essentials 4.14.4.0 and HTML5 viewers 4.14.4. All our services are set to "Warn".

Finally seem to have found a solution with this article: https://support.vertigis.com/hc/en-us/articles/11461145939986 Our sites haven't gone down since!
