Migrate Geocortex Essentials to another server
We are looking at moving from our current infrastructure to cloud for Geocortex Essentials. The infrastructure team will be taking snapshot of existing Windows server where Geocortex is installed and configured. Using the snapshot the same server will be created in new cloud environment, but it will have different hostname and IP address. My query is how this will impact the license? Will the license work directly after new server is created OR something needs to be done to ensure Geocortex works with existing license key?

Hi Apurv,
The license file is tied to the hardware so you will need to activate a new license. This is done by running the Post Installer and entering your activation code.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for your reply.
If that is the case, then during migration, which of the following options can be used?
A. Obtain new license key for new environment prior to migration. Return/Revoke the existing license key before the start of migration activities. Activate the new license key after migration. Is this possible? If yes, how?
B. De-authorize the existing license key in old environment. Activate the same license key in new environment after migration(as it was de-authorized, it should be available again for activation). Is this possible? If yes, how?

Hi Apurv,
The activation code that you are assigned is valid for multiple activations, typically 4. License files are not revokeable or changeable, they are disposed of whjen not required. To activate the new server you would run the Post Installer and enter your activation code. If you activation code has used all the available activations, you can email customerservice@latitudegeo.com and request a new one. I hope this helps.

Hi Wayne,
I'm looking to transition our license as a snapshot to a new server, within a new company (our business unit is being bought). The "old" company wants to continue running Geocortex on the existing server, and will need to purchase their own license. How would they de-authorise our license on the original server and activate their own?
Kind regards,

Leon as Wayne says above, there is no deauthorising of the existing license. We just use the same license to license another server. 0
