ArcGIS Online Security and Geocortex Identity Server - Can I have both?
I have a recently upgraded to GE 4.9 and was working with support on configuring a secure public facing site for field staff. ArcGIS Online security was set up to accomodate editing of features out in the field. That is working as it should. The problem, I was approached by another department who has requested a secure site be set up for a consultant to access the City utility data. I do not want to create AGOL user accounts as many people will be accesssing the site and we do not have the licensing. I thought I could resolve the issue by setting up security through Identity Server with a general user name and password for the counsultant, however, I cannot seem to get it to work. I have the log in working on the development site which does not have AGOL set up so I'm wondering if this is a limitation or a just a configuration issue? Can both types of security be available in one environment or do I have to pick one over the other? Does anyone have recommendations on how to create a secure guest site?

Hi Janice,
In order to access ArcGIS Online Secured content, we must log in with ArcGIS Online, and we must use ArcGIS Online as the provider for Essentials.
It is possible to also enable Identity Server for some Essentials Sites, but those sites would not be able to access private content in AGOL. Also, your users would be presented with a choice on how to sign in, which might be confusing.
We usually recommend installing a second named instance of Essentials, where one instance is secured with AGOL and the other with Identity Server. That way your permissions are kept separate between the two instances. However, you do need to manage two sets of sites which may also not be desirable.
Another option may be to have your end users sign up for their own AGOL accounts, which they could use to sign in. You may not be able to grant access to your private content, but they should be able to sign in to the viewer.
