Is there a way to resize an image attachment before it is saved to the geodatabase?
When attaching a file using a mobile device, one of the options provided automatically is to take a picture. Default camera setting is the only place I am aware of to control the resolution of the resulting photo. In some cases, camera settings don't go small enough and can add a tremendous amount of overhead to an image that might be displayed no larger than 800x600. Is there a way to contol/change/set the maximum resolution of an image before it is saved to the attachments table in the goedatabase?

Hi Scott,
This is currently not possible but it's a good idea, especially with the powerful cameras these days that create very large files. I would recommend adding this to the "Ideas" page here on the Support Center. I looked in our database but I could not see a previous request. I see an entry for the next generation viewer (GWV) to have this option (USER STORY 21770) but nothing for the current viewer.

Thanks Wayne!
We're using Samsung Galaxy S3 tablets and taking pictures with them - attaching photos to features. The default size is 4:3 standard ratio at 4128x3096 (13MB), smallest 4:3 size is 3264x2448 (8MB). Imagine how the geodatabase grows with hundreds of image attachments stored in it!
I had an on-line chat with Samsung hoping to find a better solution or a hardware developer settings option but to no avail.
I can't find anything that would make post processing attached images simple either.

There may be an app for that! Maybe something like "Photo Compress" by Lit Photo? It resizes photos and saves a copy of them to a dedicated directory. If I understand the description correctly, it does this for every photo automatically. Just a thought.

I don't doubt that there is an app for that. However, since the image is being stored as varbinary in SQL (ESRI's method) is seems to be rather uneditable. I have no issue reading an image, but changing it (resizing and/or rotating) then updating the record has excaped me so far. 0
