global search and search tables

To elaborate, on page 264 of the Administrator Guide, on adding a search table, step 6 states "From the selected table, choose the columns you wish to use with your search table. The columns that you select can be queried and displayed in results lists." Why is this not the behaviour I am seeing? If I attempt to search for a value in any field other than the parameterized ID field, zero results are returned. If I configure the search table with a parameter on a different field, I can search on that field. If I configure multiple parameters using the OR operator, global search again returns no results no matter the search value (even though I can get returns from the search table rest enpoint's search tool). In order to create a data link search on parcels, I must use ID as the parameter, but I want users to also be able to search for the related table attributes via global search and ultimately find the related feature (via the data link search). Can anyone help me understand what I might be missing, or if my approach is faulty?

I have this working now as I'd hoped. I found that in the search table, I had to include the ID parameter (which is the link to parcels) in the parameters list, but exclude it from the where clause of the search table command. For other fields I want included in the global search, I had to include in both the parameter list and the where clause (with OR operators). In the Data Link Search configuration in the parcel layer, I used ID as the parameter.
