Symbology based on data link field

Is there a way to configure symbology for a layer based on a field being pulled from a data link?

 

I have a layer which pulls most of it's data from a data link. For example, the status field within the SQL view connected to this layer could be used to show which features are "green, yellow, red".

  I don't believe there's any way to do this at the moment - I assume you want your users to be able to alter the symbology accordingly? Assuming you're talking about a 1-1 datalink, you're better off publishing the layer as a query layer with the datalink fields included.

   

  This's what we do with anything that we want to include for symbology or maptip results.
