Service connection not seeing secured service
I know I'm missing something basic out of my inexperience with secured services. I have set up an ArcGIS Server service (in a federated portal). It is shared with members of a Portal group - a single member for the purpose of establishing credentials. If I navigate to the rest services directory and log in using those credentials, I can see the service. Great.
Now I want to add an ArcGIS Server service connection in Essentials Manager using those credentials. I've tried Web Tier (Configured Credentials) - I can connect, but it doesn't see the secured service. I'm not sure how to configure token-based authentication. I found my own ancient thread on configuring a proxy page but it's not detailed enough to follow. https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCForum?sub-nav=forum&main-nav=essentials&#!/feedtype=SINGLE_QUESTION_DETAIL&criteria=ALLQUESTIONS&id=9066000000006ZSAAY
Also, my Essentials is federated with AGOL. I don't know if my whole hybrid situation is contributing to this, or if it's a simple case of having the wrong proxy URL in the connection settings.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Heather

It turns out that since my GE is federated with AGOL, it cannot consume secured services from a federated Portal. It's A or B. However, here is another option offered by Latitude. If you unfederate ArcGIS Server from Portal and use token security instead, then you can create a service connection for the ArcGIS Server in Essentials Manager using a token username and password. Token security doesn't require you to be signed into the application using any particular method- as long as you can provide the username and password to Manager, Essentials can fetch tokens on its own to provide access to the service. I'm not sure what I would lose by unfederating the Portal since I ultimately decided to go with AGOL for most user and content management. (The reason I'm publishing services through Server at all is the labeling capacities fit my needs better.) Pros and cons... 0
