Why does Designer say it cannot fetch my workflow when it can open it in ArcGIS Online?

    Hi Sean,

That message can appear if your access token in Designer is no longer valid. If you log out then back in, does this message still appear when opening the workflow?

    Thanks, Stefan

It was created in one instance of Workflow 5, but I’m trying to open it in another. I did this with another workflow yesterday and it didn’t have an issue, but today Designer did ask me if I wanted to start a free trial when I already have a license. I just reloaded the page and the message didn’t recur. Is there something I need to check about how my new instance of Workflow 5 On-Premise thinks I am licensed besides the Post Installer which says I’m good to go?

Server workflows are specific to the machine that they were created on. If you created a client workflow using on-prem, that workflow can be loaded on different machines.

The licensing pop-up may have been a caching issue. If the Post Installer indicates that you are licensed, then you are good. Let me know if it continues to appear with the next login.

@Stefan Schweigert? Bumping this cause I have the same issue. We recently moved to a new web server, so the "Server workflows are specific to the machine that they were created on" part makes sense, but unfortunately I didn't know/realize that.

I have a couple server workflows that get tokens for use in client workflows. They're working but if I can't open the server get-token workflows to open in designer, do I have to recreate them without being able to open and refer to the old ones? And would I then have to update the workflow URL to the new one in my client workflows that use it?

Not actually a huge issue, I just need info so I can plan how to proceed, thanks!

    Hi Emily,

If you are able to reinstall Workflow on the old machine or load a snapshot of it, then you should be able to load them in Designer and recover, then export them. Yes, you'll need to update the URLs as they are new workflows hosted on a different server with a different ID.

    Thanks, Stefan

Thanks Stefan, I'll work with our Infrastructure team and see what can be done!
