Zoom to Closest Feature button

Currently, there are layer buttons for "Zoom to full extent" and "Zoom to visible scale". Sometimes, when widespread layers have large scale ranges, it is difficult (and time consuming) to pan around trying to find features in the layer in a certain area if you use the "zoom to visible scale" button. I think it would be great if there was a way to implement a "Zoom to nearest feature" button, so that if you are in this situation and cannot find any features from a layer in a specific region, this tool could take you to the closest feature and you can go from there.
