Generate site token

Is there a way to generate a site token, mimicking the Get Essentials Site activity, =$site1.site.principal.tokens.site, without using that activity, ie using requests in python??

  I would also like to know this for generating essentials token from an essentials instance federated with a portal using Enterprise Authentication.
