Add a new field to existing service

I have a workflow where I calc acres on the fly to a hosted feature service. But, if they don't have a pre-defined gis_acres field, I need to create one. Any samples on this?

  I'm not sure if this is possible in the first place, but changing the service definition on the fly is not exactly a best practice, so I'd think twice before doing that.

   

  Remember that hosted polygon layers already have a Shape__Area field. If you need to display the value in a different unit, you could set an attribute expression on the layer itself.
