QueryTask workflow errors with values that include a ' where as a ’ doesn't error

Has anyone else had issues with ’ vs ' (they are different). When I edit the lastname column in ArcGIS and have last names like O'Malley or O'Reily they will fail in my querytask typeahead workflow. When I use the character map and copy past the ’ instead of typing a ' and populate them in ArcGIS and then go to Geocortex and type the O' it will work! It makes no sense.. even though typing ' in Geocortex as long as its been character map copied as ’ in ArcGIS it will work.

  If you open the browser's developer tools (F12) and select the Network tab, you can inspect the requests that are sent to ArcGIS. These will contain a 'where' clause which could help you identify the problem.
