Viewer returns an alert after using identify tool

Issue:

 

An alert window pops up with the following message:

 

The requested operation failed. Try again later, or inform your application administrator of the problem.

 

 

Does that mean the request to the map service failed?

  In most cases, there is an issue with identifying a specific service/layer. Check the developer tools (network tab) for errors like error 500 internal server error. The cause if often at the side of ArcGIS server.

  The Viewer Log will also show you the service(s) that returned the error.
