Intermittent issues with custom workflows and print time out issues.

We recently upgraded our GE apps to v4.14.2 on a Server 2016 VM. One of the major reasons to upgrade was that we were having issues with the app performance. For eg. frequent print timeouts and custom workflow errors which used to be resolved after restarting the production site. For eg. we get a "Server timed out" error while printing high resolution(300 dpi) maps or a workflow error which states: "There was a workflow error running activity: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Workflow X failed. Unhandled exception: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' in activity '1.1019: Assign new user name value.' Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'" The workflows are created using workflow designer. These errors get resolved on restarting the sites. Though after the upgrade, the errors are not as frequent, they are still occurring and it would be nice to have a more stable application. Has anyone faced a similar issue? Is there a solution to fix this? Any input will be highly appreciated.
