On opening a saved project: "Error Loading Map Services".
When opening a saved project we often get the message "Error Loading Map Services" the project has been corrupted in some way and needs to be reproduced. Does anyone else have this issue? How do we fix it? It's getting to the point where staff think they are unreliable and avoid using them.

Hi Lara,
We recently introduced some fixes to improve loading of projects with map services that have been modified after they were initially saved or removed, so I'd suggest upgrading to 4.14.3.
Thanks, Stefan

It says we are currently on Geocortex Essentials Manager 4.14.3.0. If we saved these projects before the upgrade will they have the issues? Will it only work from this point forwards?

Projects should continue to load after an upgrade; where we've seen this error appear are when permissions are configured for different users/groups and sharing between the two when only one of the accounts has allow access.
Can you share some details about how your projects are being used and some information about the map data permissions?

Thankyou so much for your help. Sorry for the delayed response.
The projects have a variety of sharing. Some not at all, some with multiple people. So I don't think this is the issue.
For some of my projects the error will appear, but then the project seems to work as expected and the layers listed in the error are showing.
With other projects it doesn't seem to be honouring the TOC. With one when I turn the layers off and on they appear, but if zooming in or out disappear again.
With another one I don't seem to be able to turn contours or rivers off even though all layers are off in the TOC.
Some people have reported not being able to change basemaps after opening, which right now looking at the same project as them, I am unable to replicate.
The behaviour seems ad hoc and unusual. It's unpredictable and unreliable. I haven't been able to recommend the use of projects to staff and they are then forced back to ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, which is not preferable.
Could this behaviour be a result of map config changes or changes to the underlying services? It's like the projects become corrupted in some way. We regularly make changes to these and I can't see a way around that.
I could probably spend more time testing. I will save a project before any config or map service changes and see how it behaves after. I fear there is no easy answer.

Hi Laura. Unfortunately a technical limitation of projects is that they cannot automatically adapt to many changes in mapservice configuration. Re-serving a layer with the same mapservice id is fine, but changing that id, or changing the group layer configuration of a mapservice can result in errors like the ones you are experiencing.
In general we'd recommend following ESRI's guidelines for re-serving layers without changing the ids and would also warn against using services that change frequently in projects that are intended for long term use.
Our support department would also be able to take a look at your setup and offer you specific advice on mitigating this problem in your environment if you are able to start a session with them.

Hello, well we upgraded test to 4.14 today. We were getting those errors before upgrade, but the same projects are now not showing the error. We found this in the release notes: 45957: Addressed an issue that could result in secured services being reported as unable to load in projects.

I have found we are getting this error when we upload data to a project. I have tried both KML and zipped shapefiles. I have also tried different projections in the shapefile. This error is persistent.

What version of Geocortex are you using?

Hello everyone,
I am having the same problem!!
Scenario 1: Site without permissions
I can add CAD or SHP files and access the projects correctlyScenario 2: Site with permissions (only my user)
I can't access the project correctly. When I open the project, I get a message that the services are unavailable but I can see the data I added.I am using GE version 4.14.2. and the project was created with protected services.
Is it necessary to upgrade to the latest version or what action should I take to correct this problem?
Thank you for your attention.
Best regards,
Carolina Mendonça0 -
Lara,

Hi,
I was able to identify the source of my problem!
The error occurred because I have defined a protected service in the Overiew Map.

By removing it, I can get the desired behavior.
Do you have any services defined in the Overview Map? If so, is the service protected by ArcGIS Server or is it public?
Best regards,
Carolina Mendonça0 -
Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately, I do not think that is what is happening with us. Our map loads correctly under any circumstance until we add data via the "Add Data to Map" tool.

I have noticed that this problem is only occurring on one site. In the others, I can add external data. I have to keep analyzing to understand why this constraint occurs on this site. If I find something, I'll share it later.

I would try upgrading... but every upgrade also comes with potential issues too! We are now on 4.14.4. The projects seem to be working fine, but we have a problem with map services. I had to recreate maps from scratch to fix that.

Thank you very much for the tip, I will validate on the site, I have if it solves the problem.
