View Protected Layers in Sandbox

I would like to use the Workflow sandbox to test parts of my workflow but it seems that all layers must be shared with Everyone in order for them to be used in the sandbox. The sandbox should be configurable so that protected feature services (not shared or only shared with a group) can be used for testing purposes.
