Maintaining relationship information when adding dynamic layer using dynamic definitions

I am adding a dynamic layer using the dynamic definition on the layer in the map service. The layer has a relationship to a table and i would like for this information to be maintained. At the moment in our production environment of HTML Viewer 4.12.1 the legend doesn't show with dynamic definitions enabled. This is a bug.

The relationship information also does not show. I have added the table to the map service, I have enabled it in the theme and i have added the relationship both to the map layer and also to the table itself. I have even included the 'relationships' object in the JSON for the dynamic layer. It seems nothing I do will work.

Do i have to have a dynamic layer expression for the 'table' too for it to work or is it just a case of if i use a dynamic expression, the relationship information gets lost.

FWIW the map service I am using is public and my dynamic expression being used to create the layer is too long to post here.
