Recommended upgrade pattern
BeantwortetWe have Vertigis Studio on-premise installed in our Development, Testing, and Production Portal environments and associated web servers.
In the event that we want to upgrade to the latest version of Vertigis Studio, Portal, or simply apply security patches to the web servers, we follow the pattern of doing it in the development environment first to see what breaks before proceeding to Testing and Production. This can span anywhere between a few days to weeks.
For Geocortex Essentials development, it's not such a big deal if our development environment is offline for a few days or longer. We can adjust and temporarily use our Testing environment for any updates that need to occur during this upgrade cycle. The window between updating Testing and Production if often short, as we fix most issues in Development before touching Testing.
I'm not sure how it do it for Vertigis Studio since the development environment runs the designer software for Web, Workflow, and others. While designer software is installed in the Testing and Production environments too, any solutions promoted into Testing or Production cannot access the designers in those environments.
As things stand now, we would need have a deployment "freeze period" between the time we upgrade our Development environment till we apply the same upgrade in Production. Is this correct, or is there a better pattern we should apply?

HI Mike - not sure I am seeing the 'snag'. You upgrade your development server to X+1, you test there, make any change etc. Once you are satisfied and ready to push to testing you upgrade your testing server to X+1 and then deploy from Dev to Test. After you are satisfied with the app on the Test Server, you upgrade the Production server to X+1 and deploy the app from Test to Prod.
You are correct that once you've updated your Development environment, you no longer have a way to update your Production application until Test and Prod are running the same version.
